The singer, who was knighted in 2016 for services to music, was involved in a fracas with his son Sean outside a New Year’s Eve party after being denied entry. A police report states that the rocker, 74, was in an altercation with the guard at the Breakers Palm Beach hotel in Florida at 11.09pm when he “threw a punch”, striking the guard “in his left ribcage area”. Stewart and his son have been charged with battery, the equivalent of assault in the UK, and told to appear at the Palm Beach county criminal justice complex next month.
