President William Ruto has dismissed claims that the government lost Ksh50 billion from the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) under the Social Health Authority (SHA), describing the reports by the Daily Nation newspaper as misleading. “Forget about the propaganda in the headline of the news that we lost some Ksh50 billion. If we lost Ksh50 billion, it means there will be nothing to pay in hospitals,” Ruto stated. The SHIF audit, covering July 2024 to June 2025, highlighted repeated claims for surgical and maternity services that exceeded established limits. In addition, during the same period, SHA collected Ksh142.78 billion in contributions and disbursed Ksh105 billion to healthcare providers across the country.
