HALIFAX—An organization pushing for improved access to French language health-care services in Nova Scotia says a New Brunswick mom’s generous gesture to a Halifax children’s hospital highlights the ongoing need for more French resources. She said Cajun singer/songwriter and French language proponent Zachary Richard also learned about her initiative and contacted her to donate. In December, his organization published a report focusing on French language services in long-term care facilities and home care offered in the province’s Acadian regions. That report found that while care homes and home care services are aware of the importance of providing services in French, there are many challenges.
