New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI): The Supreme court on Monday declined to stay its order calling on Karnataka to release Cauvery river water for Tamil Nadu, but reduced the volume. ”Agitation, spontaneity or galvanised riot or any kind of catalystic component can never form the foundation for seeking modification of an order...,” the court said. Protests were reported from several parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu following the Supreme Court’s order. The bench, sitting on a holiday, said Karnataka should release 12,000 cusecs a day to Tamil Nadu till September 20, against 15,000 cusecs it had ordered earlier. According to Karnataka, the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal’s award does not say what should be done if there is deficient water in the reservoir in a particular month.
