SC sets oral arguments on Marcos burial next weekThe Supreme Court (SC) decided yesterday to hold oral arguments Wednesday next week on the petition that seeks to stop the burial of the late former President Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani (LNMB) in Taguig City. Bayan and SELDA’s petition claimed that Marcos’ burial at the LNMB would violate two laws, the regulations of the AFP, and an agreement signed in 1993. “Respondents’ reliance on existing laws and guidelines that absolutely allows the burial of Marcos in LNMB is without legal basis,” the petitioners said. Binay submitted his recommendation as early as 2011 after Aquino tasked him to study the propriety of the Marcos burial. As far as the Palace is concerned, the burial of the late President Marcos at the LNMB is still a go unless the Supreme Court stops it.
