The SNP have lost thousands of members in just six months, with membership figures plummeting to almost half its 2019 peak, it has been revealed. The news is another blow to Humza Yousaf's leadership as he has lurched from crisis to crisis since taking over from Nicola Sturgeon in March last year. A row erupted about membership figures during the leadership contest to succeed Ms Sturgeon in spring 2023, with the party initially refusing to publish them. The new statistics show a fall in membership even further for the nationalists, although the party still has the most members in Scottish politics. He fought off a challenger for his president role at the SNP conference, just weeks before he quit it anyway.
