NHS Grampian has revealed 26,493 patients were seen at Aberdeenshire’s five minor injuries units in 2025 – Chalmers Hospital in Banff, Fraserburgh Hospital, the Jubilee Hospital in Huntly, Peterhead Hospital and Turrriff Hospital. In 2024, 21,576 patients were looked at in the North East’s MIUs, while 23,627 attended in 2023 and 19,891 in 2022. Despite widespread public concern, a decision was taken in 2024 to axe overnight opening hours at Fraserburgh, Huntly and Peterhead minor injury units. “I was very much against closing these MIUs overnight, which had a hugely detrimental impact on these communities, forcing many to travel a long distance into Aberdeen, while some may not have access to transport. “At a time when severe budget cuts have been forced on both NHS Grampian and Aberdeenshire Council by the Scottish Government, these minor injury units provide a lifeline service to people.
