SNP/Greens outline 'latte tax' plans and will FINE households for recycling 'crimes'

The SNP/Greens have outlined plans for a 'latte levy' on single-use cups and to issue fines to households deemed to not recycle properly. A charge on single-use cups has long been an ambition of the Scottish Greens and circular economy minister Lorna Slater has confirmed it will happen in the next year. The Scottish Government's 'economy and waste route map' states a charge for single-use disposable cups will be introduced "by 2025". It also suggests the government is "committed to the delivery of a successful Deposit Return Scheme" in a bid to improve recycling statistics. Written warnings will be handed to "householders who place the wrong materials in waste and recycling bins" in the first instance before further action is taken.
