Former SNP leadership hopeful Kate Forbes has revealed that she was left with “extreme terror” while experiencing postnatal depression. The MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch gave birth to daughter Naomi in August 2022 but soon began suffering from the illness. The 33-year-old added that she expected to be filled with “joy and happiness” but was instead left with insomnia and “terror” that someone was going to harm the baby. Her birthing experience, she said, was highly traumatic and took more than 18 hours and eventually involved forceps. Speaking to Lunchtime Live on BBC Radio Scotland, Ms Forbes said: “I’ve still to hear of a non-traumatic labour experience for any woman.
