Cash-strapped councils have said the cost of giving workers a day off would prohibitive. In Glasgow, Scottish Labour said the SNP government should stump up the cash if they want workers to get an extra bank holiday. Despite that, Glasgow has become one of the few councils to give the bank holiday the green light. Only Glasgow and Aberdeen have approved the proposal so far, although most councils have yet to make a decision. Scottish Government workers, often given bank holidays other Scots are not entitled to, will receive the holiday.
