KOTA KINABALU: Representatives from the Sabah and Sarawak governments agree that the Tourism Tax should not impede the industry's competitiveness in any way. Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said any tax collected from hotels should be a catalyst for the industry's growth. He said that during the meeting, they came up with suggestions and proposals to fine-tune certain provisions of the Tourism Tax Act to ensure growth and sustainability of the tourism industry. "Sabah and Sarawak's tourism industry interests are the overriding consideration in the preparation of the memorandum on the Tourism Tax Act 2017," Masidi said. Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz had said that the revenue collected would be used to promote Malaysia overseas and refurbish tourism facilities.
