The supermarket chain J Sainsbury has nudged profit forecasts higher after a better-than-expected Christmas. Premium champagne sales were up 52 per cent and sales of the group’s premium Taste the Difference range were up 11 per cent. SponsoredSainsbury’s reported that overall sales rose 9.3 per cent in the nine weeks to January 2. Online food sales were up 128 per cent, with 1.1 million orders delivered in the ten days to Christmas, double the number of last year. The company said that it now expected underlying pre-tax profit of about £330 million in the year to March.
