KUCHING: The Sarawak government has declared five villages in the Serian district as rabies-affected areas. The five villages are Kampung Kerait, Kampung Paon Rimu, Kampung Paun Rimu Bakung, Kampung Remun and Kampung Lebor. The gazette notification comes under Section 37 of the Veterinary Public Ordinance 1999. Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas said all household dogs in the infected and surveillance areas within 10km radius must be vaccinated with anti-rabies vaccine. Meanwhile, State Health Director Dr. Jamilah Hashim said three young patients struck by the disease remain critical, and are being warded at the intensive care unit of the Sarawak General Hospital.
