Health officials conducted interviews to fill the position at St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, last March and offered a contract to the successful candidate. Patients were concerned that they had been treated by oncologists since Ireland's last sarcoma specialist left her role. The previous expert was retained for a further six months while a recruitment process was under way.
