MANILA, Philippines — A 39-year-old Filipina household service worker who was found guilty of murder was executed in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. The Philippine embassy in Riyadh reported to the DFA that Saudi authorities carried out the sentence against the Filipina after the Saudi Supreme Judicial Council classified her case as one in which blood money, under Shariah law, does not apply. The DFA expressed its deep condolences to the Filipina’s family, who have requested for privacy during their time of bereavement. “Our government extended help to this Filipino… it’s just unfortunate that, in this particular case, the Sharia law does not apply where blood money can be a reason to stop the execution,” Panelo said. He urged the OFWs to remain honest, hardworking and ready to extend help to their fellow Filipino workers.
