KOUSIK SENRaiganj: The North Dinajpur district administration has started an inquiry into allegations that many farmers submitted fake land records and documents to obtain compensation for crop damage from floods and hailstorms last year. "We have recently started disbursing compensation to farmers who had to suffer losses due to natural calamities on last year. In course of the process, it came to our notice that a section of people have faked land documents and even records to avail the compensation," said Ayesha Rani A, DM, North Dinajpur. The heads of some panchayats in Raiganj and Itahar informed officials of land & land reforms department that some people do not own land or have not suffered any losses of crops managed to get cheques of compensation. Pradip Kumar Giri, the land and land reforms officer of Raiganj, said a list of applicants whose documents were found forged was being prepared.
