I saw a future where I could help students love school as much as I did. With advances in technology and social media, changes in society and education, and increasing mental health needs, the expectations of school counselors are constantly evolving and our roles are often misunderstood. Across the country we see a critical lack of access to mental health resources, especially for children and adolescents. And, of course, the cost of mental health treatment for families becomes yet another barrier. I have located community grants and advocated for adolescent mental health services to take place after school hours.
