Grim new figures show 22% of all state secondary pupils in England missed classes on November 19 - up from 17% in a week. And almost three-quarters of secondary schools have at least one pupil self-isolating due to a suspected coronavirus case in the school. By November 19, over a quarter of schools had 30 or more pupils self-isolating due to potential contact - up from 8% to 9% in two weeks. “The decrease in attendance is mainly due to the continued increase in the number of pupils self-isolating due to potential contact with a case of COVID-19,” the government confirmed. Across both primary and secondary schools in England, around 9% to 11% of pupils were absent for Covid-related reasons last Thursday.
