Part of what has led to a safe reopening, experts say, is only introducing in-person learning when there is a relatively low community spread of coronavirus. Students arrive for classes in New York, the only of the top 10 largest school districts to try in-person learning. "The people I think we are struggling to get to wear the masks are the adults and high school students." And while many private schools and smaller rural schools have been able to open with protective equipment and social distancing, large city schools have stayed closed. The difference between learning in-person and online could become another dividing line between students.
