The Young Academy of Scotland, part of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, surveyed 50 carers across Scotland, inviting them to share their experiences. Several people suggested that one way forward is to treat what is traditionally considered unpaid caring as more like paid employment. Party leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said: "We are making it a manifesto pledge to increase Carer Support Payment by £400 a year.
