David Cameron’s Tory government introduced English Votes for English Laws that year to try to correct a constitutional imbalance left by Scottish devolution. English MPs can vote among themselves to effectively veto changes in laws only affecting England under the mechanism. But a number of Tory MPs representing South of England seats are irritated by the move. “It might not matter now when we’ve got a majority of 80 but at some point in the future we are going to find Scottish MPs have a disproportionate influence again.
