Taking selfies more frequently leads to higher body image dissatisfaction, a cross-sectional study which explored the relationship between selected social media behaviours and body image dissatisfaction among adolescents in Sri Lanka has determined. Adolescence is a tempestuous period in terms of body image concerns. Their body image dissatisfaction was assessed using the self-administered Adolescent Body Image Satisfaction Scale. In the Sri Lankan study, while 100 (20.9%) of the adolescents articulated a positive body image, the majority (376 – 78.7%) reported mild body image dissatisfaction. A higher body mass index was associated with greater body image dissatisfaction.
