Senators are scheduled to probe the rising fatalities resulting from hyena attacks in Witeithie Ward in Juja Sub-county, Kiambu County. Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa wants the committee to find out why Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has failed to address numerous complaints by Kiambu residents about the rampant hyena attacks on people. Thangw’a further wants KWS to state immediate steps taken to address the attacks saying the situation had caused fear and anxiety among residents. He also wants KWS to clarify whether there are plans underway to compensate the victims. Residents blamed the increased hyena attacks on abandoned quarries and bushy chunks of land that have remained undeveloped for years.
