Shahrizat wants to know if Kit Siang will push for RCI on forex losses - Nation

PETALING JAYA: Wanita Umno wants DAP veteran lawmaker Lim Kit Siang to come clean on whether he will push for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into fresh claims that the country suffered billions of ringgit in forex losses in the 1990s. Its chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Jalil (pic) questioned why Lim was being silent now when he had been very vocal in calling for an RCI when the issue first surfaced. “Is Lim Kit Siang afraid that if he insists on setting up an RCI on the forex issue, his personal political ambition to become deputy prime minister and finance minister will be threatened?” Shahrizat said in a statement Thursday. In an interview with a local English daily, he had questioned why there was no investigation of the “biggest forex losses in the world”, which allegedly occurred during the premiership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Lim was one of the Opposition figures who had highlighted the issue at the time, and had called for an RCI to investigate the actual amount of losses suffered.
