He stated bluntly that the ’18 Jays outfield played too shallow. Yet the deeper dive data-trolling doesn’t make Montoyo’s case hugely when comparing the Toronto outfield to Tampa, positionally. In right, 292 feet on average for Toronto, 291 for Tampa, again a tad more shallow. My opinion, from playing against Tampa all the time, is they really just try to eliminate extra-base hits. Maybe that curve has swung a little bit because guys are getting to the big leagues at a younger age.
