Shanto surges in rankings after twin centuries against Sri Lanka in Galle Test

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has made a major leap in the ICC Test batting rankings, climbing 21 spots to 29th after scoring centuries in either innings of the drawn first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. Shanto, who struck 148 and 125, became the first Bangladeshi to score two centuries in a Test match more than once, and only the 16th captain in Test history to do so. England’s Rishabh Pant, after scoring 134 and 118, moved up one place to seventh, becoming just the second wicketkeeper in Test history to register twin centuries. Josh Tongue climbed 16 places to 64th, and India’s Prasidh Krishna rose 21 places to 72nd following his 5-wicket match haul. India’s Ravindra Jadeja remained the top-ranked Test allrounder, with England captain Ben Stokes moving up three places to fifth.
