Sex offenders could be driven underground if their whereabouts were revealed under a proposed new law, say rape support and probation groups. The Probation Service and the Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI) warn against making information about sexual offenders too widely available. They were speaking as politicians considered a bill that would give the state powers to monitor offenders after their release from prison. The Sex Offenders (Amendment) Bill would permit the electronic tagging of offenders and allow a judge to decide if a sex offender should be banned from any job that required them to have access to children.
