It’s one of the largest donations ever for mental health care in Canada. SickKids Foundation and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health are among several organizations set to receive funds from a $30-million donation for mental-health services from the Slaight Family Foundation. SickKids, meanwhile, will receive $10 million to build a new mental health in-patient unit, allowing the hospital to double the size of its current unit. Pediatric and mental health experts have said the pandemic is fuelling an increase in eating disorders among adolescents. The funds will also support increased access to mental health resources for Indigenous youth, inclusive services for the LGBTQ community and vulnerable seniors facing isolation.
