ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has accused police of misplaced security priorities after they blocked the Linda Mwananchi planned parallel National Delegates Conference at ufangamano House in Nairobi. Sifuna said the faction had formally notified authorities of the meeting, which he emphasised was meant to be peaceful and not a protest. However, members arriving at the venue were met with lorries full of police officers, a move the SG termed unnecessary and intimidating. Sifuna was kicked out by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and replaced with Catherine Omanyo in an acting capacity pending ratification at the NDC. Beyond the police deployment, Sifuna also pointed to what he termed as a worrying contradiction in the government’s handling of security issues.
