The Sime Darby Plantation, a Malaysian Conglomerate Plantation Company operating in western Liberia has disclosed that it will inaugurate one of the modern palm oil mills in Liberia early next year at the cost of US$18m and further noted that upon the completion of this state-of-art oil palm mill Liberians will have additional employment opportunities with the company. This initiative by Sime Darby Liberia will be seen one the major breakthrough in its overseas investment after breaking ground for its first palm oil mill on African soil, after it was officially pronounced by the Company in 2014 in Grand Cape Mount County, Western Liberia. For his part, the Chief Engineer for the Sime Darby Plantation Liberia, Mr. Shamaruddin Abu Salah also disclosed that the completion of this multimillion oil production plant (Mill), it will help to boost the economic growth of Liberia, and will also reduce the high unemployment rate in the Country. Sime Darby Plantation Liberia has more than 10,000 hectares of land planted with oil palm in Grand Cape Mount and Bomi Counties.
