Singapore blanketed in haze

Haze has blanketed Singapore as the country is being affected by this year’s first major outbreak of haze from forest fires in neighbouring Indonesia. Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) said the three-hour pollutant standards index (PSI) was at 165, while the 24-hour PSI level doubled in the past 24 hours to 65-68 across the country. The PSI level of above 100 is considered unhealthy for health and people are advised to limit outdoor activities. Haze condition in 2015 was considered the worst in history, affecting Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. In September 2015, Singapore had to shut down schools and distributed masks as PSI increased to “hazardous” level after being blanketed in smoke from Indonesia’s Sumatra island.
