Six former MCAs were re-elected in Kisumu after they lost their seats in the 2017 elections. Of the 35 ward reps who were elected in 2017, only nine retained their seats. Seth Kanga (Market/Milimani), Joakim Oketch (Kondele), Gard Olima (South West Nyakach), Habil Nyasuna (Masogo/ Nyang'oma), Seth Okumu (East Seme), Vincent Jagongo (North West Kisumu), Maurice Ngeta (Awasi/Onjiko) and Oiko Pete (Kabonyo Kanyagwal) all succefully defended their seats. Jennifer Obonyo (South West Kisumu) who served as nominated MCA ran and won on the ODM ticket. All candidates who won during the ODM primaries emerged victorious except in Kobura ward where independent candidate Billy Odhiambo won.
