(Photo courtesy of Department of Skill Development)Labour Minister Julapun Amornvivat on Tuesday pledged to ensure the Social Security Office (SSO) operates independently and transparently, while confirming that the Social Security Board (SSB) election will retain the existing "one voter, seven votes" formula. He stressed the SSO must act as a neutral institution responsible for managing workers' funds without political interference. If all parties take a step back, they should stop creating groups and factions so the social security system can move forward independently." The board election stems from amendments to the Social Security Act in 2015 that require representatives of employers and insured workers to be directly elected. However, the first election in December 2023 faced criticism over delays, low turnout and the "one voter, seven choices" system, which some said favours certain groups.
