New Zealand winegrowers are facing a supply hangover after a bumper crop in 2025 but a decline in wine consumption. Reflecting on the state of the industry, Carter said it was heartbreaking to see what was going on, and that a lot of it is governed by mother nature. New Zealand Winegrowers chief executive Philip Gregan says growers will face similar challenges this year as they did in 2025.
