Slager is also charged in federal court, but the federal trial has not yet been scheduled. "A federal trial may be unnecessary to achieve justice for Roof if a state trial results in a death sentence since the state sentence would be carried out before any federal sentence," the documents said. That trial is now set for Oct. 31 and will likely be underway at the time of Roof's federal trial. Currently, the federal trial is set for November while the state case is scheduled for January. Roof's attorneys in the federal case have made a similar offer.
