South Sudan’s Leaders Sign Peace Agreement in Ethiopia


Addis Ababa, Sep 13 (Prensa Latina) The parties in conflict in South Sudan signed a revitalized peace agreement in this capital, almost five years after the outbreak of the war in that country, the newscasts reported today. Festus Mogae, outgoing president of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), said the discussion of the peace process went through different cities in the region and overcame many challenges to reach this point. Established after the violation of the 2015 agreement, JMEC is responsible for monitoring all aspects of the implementation of the agreement, said the report of the state broadcaster Fana Broadcasting Corporate. ‘The eyes of the world are upon us since the South Sudanese leaders entrusted us with the task of reconciliation. Lasting peace requires the commitment of each person to make that State a democratic and unified place,’ said the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed.
