PUTRAJAYA: The special court for child sexual crimes sat for the first time Tuesday with five cases heard. Of the five cases, four were rape cases under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code and an outrage on decency case under Section 377D of the same Code, presided by Sessions Court judge Yong Zarida Sazali. During proceedings, Judge Yong Zarida ruled that the rape case would be conducted in-camera following deputy public prosecutor Aimi Syazwani Sarmin's request. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the special court on June 22, which would handle cases involving sexual crimes against children. The special court will hear cases from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya where underaged children are victimised.
