There are 103 million Internet subscribers, mostly on mobile broadband Internet. In fact, the growth and proliferation of mobile broadband services is increasingly an important part of overall economic growth. The UN wanted consumers in all countries to have access to affordable broadband Internet services, including in developing countries. GSMA stressed that this high spectrum pricing is a major roadblock to increasing mobile penetration. Authored by GSMA Intelligence, the study also found that governments are playing active roles in increasing spectrum prices to maximise states’ revenues from spectrum licensing.
