Members of staff of Transactional Products and Services unit of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc have donated an equivalent of one-year salary of all the teachers to Comenius Nursery and Primary School, a tuition-free elementary school for poor children at Ikola Odunsi, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State. Comenius Nursery and Primary School, with a current students’ population of about 160 and 10 academic and non academic staff, is an initiative of Street2School charity organisation running as a tuition-free elementary school for poor and marginalised children. He, however, urged both the teachers and the pupils to be more committed to their respective duties, promising that the workers would not relent in supporting education development in any way possible. In her response, the school’s proprietress, Mrs. Oluwatosin Taiwo, thanked the donors for the gesture, saying regular payment of teachers’ salary had been a great burden for the tuition-free school since inception. So, the move by the company to donate a year salary, she said, was a big push for them to give more quality education for the pupils.
