Worker rights cannot be protected and promoted without first creating an enabling environmentLabour Day was observed this year several weeks before the tenure of the incumbent government was supposed to come to an end. The incumbent government would like to tell you that under Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it plans to implement nationally appropriate social protection systems for all and promote worker rights in the country. Worker rights cannot be protected and promoted without first creating an enabling environment. Trade unions are in a better position to protect and promote worker rights once they attain the status of a collective bargaining agent. It is no wonder then that promotion of worker rights do not find any place in the hefty one trillion PSDP for the last eight years.
