The Ministry of Agriculture has called on counties that are likely to have surplus staple foods to urgently provide data on the volumes and current prices. The targeted counties are Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Bomet and Nyamira. The counties are also required to create awareness through local media and other means so as to quickly establish the sources of food. They are also required to develop simple, rapid communication tools to reach out to the data sources. When collecting data, encourage data sources to provide photos of whatever they have, for example through WhatsApp or mobile phones,” the letter says.
