Though desilting of Adyar river has been a periodic exercise, it should be particularly done for 3 km downstream of the runway bridge till the check dam before MIOT hospital. The report states: “Dredging, widening and cleaning of the riverbed upstream of the runway bridge has minimal impact on the river discharge capacity. Also, a radar type automatic water level recorder can be installed at the secondary runway bridge site and the levels be monitored, the report said. Over 1,500 passengers and 22 aircraft were stranded at Chennai airport when the floods struck in December 2015. Chennai airport also reportedly suffered a loss of ₹67 crore.
