In recent years, the IIHS has raised the proverbial bar for new vehicles to earn its highest “Top Safety Pick+” designation. (Another 47 vehicles earned Top Safety Pick – without the “+” – status by virtue of obtaining only “acceptable” scores for headlight performance.) And as we’ve found, that can add as much as $11,000 to the base price of the IIHS' recommended models. That means a car that’s base priced at $23,055 costs at least $32,050 to obtain the items that earn the Legacy a TSP+ designation.
