GEORGE TOWN: A freak storm which caused huge waves at the tourist belt of Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi saw a 12m-long tugboat swept to the shore. The tugboat named GMS Fortuna 6 was believed to have run aground on the beach near the Hard Rock Hotel in Batu Ferringhi on Friday night after the storm. “When I looked more closely, it was clear that the tugboat had run aground as it had tilted to the right.”Force of nature: The tugboat stranded on the beach in Batu Ferringhi following the freak storm. He said the waves were high and that the sea had been very choppy in the last few weeks. Northern Region Marine Department director Capt Abdul Samad Shaik Osman said his department did not receive any news about the tugboat.
