Stranded Ethiopians rescued from LibyaFrom ADANE BIKILA in Addis Ababa, EthiopiaADDIS ABABA, (CAJ News) – SOME 76 Ethiopian migrants stranded in war-torn Libya have returned home after failing to reach Europe. The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) secured the repatriation of the group comprised of 12 females and 64 males. Since August 2017, a European Union funded programme – Joint Initiative for Migrants Protection and Reintegration – has assisted 102 Ethiopian migrant returnees from Libya. Under the programme, Ethiopian returnees from Djibouti, Sudan, Tanzania, Yemen, Zambia and South Africa have been provided with post-arrival assistance. “This week’s action has been by far the largest number of returnees the programme has received from Libya,” said IOM’s Alemayehu Seifeselassie in Addis Ababa.
