Banking operations in the State were affected due to the one-day nationwide strike called by the All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC ). The striking bank employees took out rallies and held dharnas in all districts to highlight their demands. In Thiruvananthapuram, the employees took out a rally from the Fine Arts College at Palayam to the city branch of the SBI at Statue where a meeting was held. Abraham Shaji John, State secretary, AIBOC, T. Santosh Kumar, State secretary, All India Public sector and Central Government Officers Confederation (AIPCOC), and P. B. Thomas, State president, All India Bank Pensioners and Retirees Confederation (AIBPRC), were among those who addressed the gathering. The AIBOC had called for the strike demanding discussions on salary and service conditions of officers of all grades, revision of salary on the principles of minimum wages formula and as per Charter of Demands and revision of pension benefits.
