It was taken on a beach in Florida when Sam, aged 11 months, was busy trying to eat a fistful of sand. Posted on the photo sharing site Flickr, it was shared millions of times until baby Sam became known to strangers the world over as Success Kid. Laney Griner with her son, Sam, who is now 13Sam’s mother, Laney, was horrified. “He’s vitriolic, anti-immigration — his whole thing is to upset people,” she said.
