Suffolk County Council has maintained its objection to National Grid’s Norwich to Tilbury pylon project plans, as the Planning Inspectorate begins its examination of the scheme. Running from Norwich to Tilbury, in Essex, the scheme includes 159km of overhead cables along 509 steel lattice pylons, plus 21km of underground cabling through the Dedham Vale. Cllr Richard Rout spoke on behalf of Suffolk County Council, citing a number of long-standing and unresolved objections as to why the council believes the current project proposal should not go ahead. “The county council fully supports the need to resolve the country’s energy security. A spokesperson for National Grid said: "We understand there is strong local interest in the Norwich to Tilbury project.
