Iconic South African holiday resort Sun City has installed a R16 million grid-tied rooftop solar PV plant to reduce its electricity consumption from the national grid. Located alongside the Pilanesberg National Park in the North West Province, Sun City’s new 1.4MW peak-rated, grid-tied solar rooftop PV system ties in at the Sun Central entertainment centre for use around the resort. The system consists of 2,548,569W monocrystalline solar PV modules on the Sun City Hotel Roof. Rooftop solar for EV charging to power electric vehicle fleetGrid-tied solar not the only sustainability measure at Sun CityFrom a sustainability perspective, the solar plant will see Sun City reduce its annual CO 2 equivalent emissions by an estimated 2,510 tons per year. The rooftop solar plant has an expected lifespan of more than 25 years when coupled with a preventative maintenance regime.
