Sun Pharma recalls two lots of diabetes drug due to microbial contamination

New Delhi: Indian drug major Sun Pharma 's subsidiary in the US is voluntarily recalling two lots of its diabetes drug 'Riomet' due to microbial contamination. "The most plausible portal of entry of Scopulariopsis brevicaulis is the respiratory tract, where it may cause pneumonia, sinusitis and disseminated infections," it stated. "To date, SPII has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall. "Apart from Riomet, SPII has initiated eight voluntary recalls this year, according to US FDA's enforcement reports. This injection is indicated for replacement therapy in males in conditions associated with symptoms of deficiency or absence of endogenous testosterone.
